- Can I get credit reports from all the credit reference agencies?
Through the policy you would have unlimited online access to your credit report, these are provided by Experian who are the largest credit reference agency in the UK.
- Can I cover my husband/wife/partner/family on this policy?
We can set up a separate policy to cover your husband/wife/partner. Please phone us for details on special offers for existing customers.
- How many times am I allowed to access my credit report once I buy a policy?
If you access your credit report online, then you can view your credit report as many times as you like during the duration of your policy at no extra cost.
- Would I be able to get my credit rating on the policy?
As the policy is to cover identity theft we don't offer the credit rating on this policy. However, your credit report and alerts provide more comprehensive detail about your credit status.
- I've heard that more searches on my credit report could lower my credit rating. Will accessing my credit report affect my rating?
No. When you access your credit report you are only viewing it, not doing any searches. There will be no effect at all to your rating, irrespective of how many times you view it.
- How is Identity Protection different to Card Protection?
Card Protection covers your existing credit/debit cards from fraudulent use if lost or stolen, cancellation and reordering, as well as cover for the legal liability charged. Identity Protection protects the individual against identity theft which is where someone uses your name for financial gain, such as applying for new credit cards, taking a loan out in your name or committing a criminal offence.
- I don't work, will this still cover me as it mentions lost wages?
Our policy still covers you against the cost of resolving any case of identity theft, such as legal fees, mail expenses and telephone costs.
- As I am a sole trader would this still cover me?
The policy wouldn't cover losses that occur out of business activity. However, if the loss was personal it would be covered. Call us for more information on Commercial Identity Protection from 8am to 8pm Monday — Friday and 9am to 5pm Saturday, on 0844 848 7058 and quote reference SE01.
- I have heard about protective registration - what is it?
If you're at risk of identity theft (for example, if someone steals a piece of your personal information), we'll place a protective registration warning with CIFAS¹ to ensure that extra precautions are made before credit is granted in your name.
- Why do I have to send in personal documents to Experian when I have already seen a credit report from them over the internet?
Unfortunately, due to the rigorous security checks that Experian carry out they have to be able to confirm someone's identity before making a credit report available to them.
