With Identity Safe, we'll monitor unsecure websites and data trading sites for the personal and financial information we hold for you, and will alert you to any risks. You can also widen the search by adding extra details about yourself on our online members' area.
Plus, we'll give you access to your Experian credit report. Your credit report can help detect ID fraud and we're on hand to help you understand what to look out for.

Rest assured if you do become a victim of identity theft, you'll have access to a Personal Fraud Expert who'll offer advice and take you through the process step by step. Your expert will help you prove to the relevant organisations that the debt was taken out by a fraudster and not by you. They'll work closely with you on a one-to-one basis and help take away the worry and hassle of clearing your name and restoring your credit status.
If your case is very complex we may if we think its necessary assign a Home Investigator to visit you at home to support your case.
Keep a close eye on the areas of your credit report we've listed below to make sure you haven't been a victim of fraud:
- Check company names – Check all the company names shown in your credit report against your credit card or loan agreements to ensure they match up.
- Check your payments – Experian uses a 'traffic light' colour coding system. If your status is green, you should be up-to-date. Amber means you're up to three months in arrears. The figure in the 'traffic light' shows the exact number of months your payment is overdue. Red indicates payments that are at least four months late.
- Check your credit limits – Is this an amount you recognise as a loan or credit card you have? Check your most recent statements if the figure is higher than you were expecting.
Through Identity Safe you will have unlimited online access to your credit report. This is provided by Experian, the largest credit reference agency in the UK. You can also get your credit report from other credit reference agencies: Equifax and Call Credit.
As an Identity Safe customer you can view your credit report as many times as you like , at no extra cost.
As Identity Safe has been designed to prevent you becoming a victim of identity theft it won't provide your credit rating. However, your credit report and alerts provide comprehensive details about your credit status and should be all you need to understand if you've been a victim of ID fraud.
No. When you access your credit report you are only viewing it, not carrying out any searches. There will be no effect at all on your rating, no matter how many times you view it.
Card Protection provides you with assistance in the event that your existing credit and debit cards are lost or stolen. We also cancel your missing cards and reorder new ones. Identity Safe helps to prevent your identity being used fraudulently by detecting and preventing identity theft, which occurs when someone uses your name for financial gain, such as applying for new credit cards, taking out a loan in your name or committing a criminal offence.
If you're at risk of identity theft (for example, if someone steals a piece of your personal information), we'll place a protective registration warning with CIFAS, the UK's Fraud Prevention Service, to ensure that extra precautions are made before any credit is granted in your name. For more information on protective registration please visit the CIFAS website.
Due to the rigorous security checks that Experian carry out, and the sensitive nature of the information provided on your credit report, they have to be able to confirm someone's identity before making a credit report available to them.
During your health check a trained expert will take you through a full risk consultation to assess your current level of risk and advise you how to keep your identity safe.
