Identity Protection

Here are the answers to the questions most people ask about Identity Protection insurance. We're here to help so if you have any other queries, please give us a call on 0844 848 2942*.

Can I get credit reports from all the credit reference agencies?

Through your Identity Protection policy you will have unlimited online access to your credit report. These are provided by Experian, the largest credit reference agency in the UK.  You're also covered for the costs of reqesting other credit reports up to £20 per year.

Can I cover my husband/wife/partner/family on this policy?

We can set up a separate Identity Protection policy to cover your husband/wife/partner. Please phone us for details about special offers for existing customers.

How many times am I allowed to access my credit report once I buy a policy?

You can view your credit report as many times as you like online for the duration of your policy, at no extra cost.

Would I be able to get my credit rating on the policy?

As the policy is to cover identity theft we don't provide your credit rating on this policy. However, your credit report and alerts provide comprehensive detail about your credit status.

I've heard that more searches on my credit report could lower my credit rating. Will accessing my credit report affect my rating?

No. When you access your credit report you are only viewing it, not carrying out any searches. There will be no effect at all on your rating, no matter how many times you view it.

How is Identity Protection different to Card Protection?

Card Protection insures your existing credit and debit cards from fraudulent use if they are lost or stolen.  We cover you for the legal liability as well as cancelling your missing cards and reordering you new ones. Identity Protection insures the individual against identity theft, which occurs when someone uses your name for financial gain, such as applying for new credit cards, taking out a loan in your name or committing a criminal offence.

I don't work, will the Identity Protection policy still cover me as it mentions lost wages?

Our policy still covers you against the costs of resolving any case of identity theft, such as legal fees, mail expenses and telephone costs.

As I am a sole trader, would this still cover me?

The policy wouldn't cover losses that occur out of business activity. However, if the loss was personal it would be covered. Call us on 0844 848 7058*.

I have heard about protective registration – what is it?

If you're at risk of identity theft (for example, if someone steals a piece of your personal information), we'll place a protective registration warning with CIFAS1 to ensure that extra precautions are made before any credit is granted in your name.

1CIFAS, the UK's Fraud Prevention Service, is a not-for-profit association used by the majority of the UK’s financial services companies to prevent fraud.

Why do I have to send in personal documents to Experian when I have already seen a credit report from them over the internet?

Unfortunately, due to the rigorous security checks that Experian carry out, they have to be able to confirm someone's identity before making a credit report available to them.
