Lost debit and credit cards

I was just about to go out with my friend at the weekend when I checked my bag to make sure my cards were there. They weren't and I couldn't find them anywhere. I even went back to the supermarket where I had last used them, but they hadn't been handed in. I was terrified that if someone had got hold of my cards and had managed to access my accounts, they could have cleared me out.

Then I remembered that I had this Card Protection policy with CPP. The lady I spoke to was excellent. She was so reassuring, and she had such a professional, calming manner. I couldn't remember all the cards that I had in the bag, so she just brought all my card details up on her screen. When I put the phone down, I felt relieved - I knew that I didn't need to worry, and that everything had been taken care of.

I was really surprised when my first replacement card arrived after a couple of days. It was all just so easy and quick.

I think everyone should have Card Protection. For the sake of a small price, you make one phone call and it's all sorted. Imagine how difficult it would be if you had to contact all your banks separately, trying to remember all your details. I just don't think it's worth the risk".

House burglary

We came downstairs one morning and realised we'd been burgled. The living room had just been emptied of all electrical things. It wasn't until about half an hour later when I went to get my car keys to take the children to school that I realised my bag was gone.

That was the thing that affected me most. The other things could be replaced but my bag had so many things in it which were just gone, my purse being the main one with all my cards in it, as well as my door keys and house keys.

My first thought was whether the thieves would be using my cards. It was morning by the time we realised anything had happened so they could have been using them by then. I went straight for my CPP Card Protection policy.

I don't really remember too much about the call, but they were fine - they took my details and did what they needed to do. I think they did the protective registration thing there and then. I also took out Identity Protection. It was amazing, like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. 

It was good to know that you could claim for replacement house locks, as well as car locks. I wasn't aware of that before, I thought it was just cards that were covered, but the other things have been an added bonus.

Stolen wallet abroad

I took out CPP Card Protection because it covered all my cards, passport, everything. It just seemed a good idea, a reasonable price and a good thing to have if I ever lost my wallet.

I was on a weekend coach trip to Belgium, staying in a hotel, when I realised that my wallet and passport had been stolen. The first reaction is 'panic' and you just don’t know what to do. When you're in a foreign country you feel like you're on your own.
 
Luckily I had the CPP key fob on my keys with the number to ring. I called CPP on the Saturday morning and they were very helpful. I only had a few notes and Belgian currency and the key fob. My wallet with all my identification and my passport were all gone. CPP said they could get some emergency money out to me, but as it was a weekend it was a little more difficult. I also had no ID, so had to get a police report. Anyway, CPP managed to negotiate all this and get some money wired over to me to last through Sunday and Monday.

If I had not had this cover, I don't know how I would have got all the numbers to cancel my cards. Thank goodness I had the key fob. I wouldn't have known where to start without it.

Car broken into

When I returned to my car after walking my dog I discovered that the window was smashed and my bag had been stolen from under the seat. I was with a friend who said we should go to the police. But I just wanted to get home and ring CPP to get all my cards stopped first.

It is a terrible feeling, you feel very vulnerable - you know the thieves have your address and you do feel very open to being targeted. I don't know if they tried to get any money out as everything was stopped so promptly. 

CPP were really helpful and reassuring, they gave me confidence that everything would be sorted, which is what you need when you have been shaken. The lady at CPP asked if I had thought of Identity Protection. The thieves had enough information about me - what with labels, passport and driving licence - to take things out in my name. I took a policy out there and then, and was covered immediately. 

CPP are available 24 hours. I have never considered other card protection policies as CPP have never let me down. They were as good as their word - reliable and pleasant to deal with.

Lost debit card

I wanted to check my bank balance, but when I went to look for my card, it wasn't where I normally keep it. I checked my shopping bag, all my coat pockets, I even started turning out drawers.

I was really starting to panic by this point, I was so worried that someone might have got hold of my money. I had recently retired and my pay-out was temporarily sitting in my bank account, so the thought of someone getting hold of that made me utterly distraught.

I went to the bank to see if my card had been handed in, but it hadn't. I was so upset that I hadn't really thought about my Card Protection policy until the lady in the bank reminded me. She rang CPP for me and the chap I spoke to was fantastic – he was so helpful, professional and reassuring. He basically said, "Look, don’t worry, I'm cancelling your card right now, nobody can use it, and I’m ordering you a new one".

Shortly after cancelling my card, I received a letter from CPP confirming that the card had been cancelled and a new one ordered. I thought that was great - it's not often that you get things on paper like that these days, it was just a really nice touch and it put my mind at rest.
